Baoguette vietnamese bistro

Baoguette is  small Vietnamese eatery that’s right across from English Bay. I don’t know about you but I think that there’s nothing better than being able to eat dinner and watch the sunset at the same time!

We came across Baoguette during the summer time when we were down at English Bay watching the fireworks. We planned to come back but we never got around to it because shortly after, Vancouver got cold and cloudy again and we didn’t have a chance to come back to the beach again.

Pork and shrimp tapioca dumplings ($6): These were wrapped in banana leaves and steamed. We had never tried this dish before and were very excited to try it.

I found that the shrimp inside was overcooked though because it was really chewy and tough. Grayson felt that the tapioca wrapping was too thick but I liked it just fine. But later we found that some of the dumplings had a thicker wrapping than others so it wasn’t a big deal.

Salmon baoguette ($6.75): This was the special of the day and being that I had never seen a salmon bahn mi sandwich before and Grayson never trying a bahn mi before…we just HAD to try this sandwich.

The salmon was cooked perfectly and flaked off with a gentle pull with a fork. The baguette bun had a good crispy to it while remaining soft in it’s interior. I would definitely have this again and I have now successfully got Grayson hooked on bahn mi sandwiches.

Vietnamese chicken curry ($8.75): Grayson chose this dish because he had never tired Vietnamese curry before, well neither have I so even though I’m not a fan of curry, I had to give it a try. Inside the bowl we found 2 pieces of chicken thigh, a drumstick and half a potato. It also came with a bowl of rice.

Grayson liked that the curry had a hint of coconut and it wasn’t too spicy. It had enough heat for you to feel that there are spices in the curry but not enough to leave you asking for more water. The chicken was pull off the bone tender and we definitely wished that there was more of it in there because it was just that good! There could of been more potatoes in there but I guess having more chicken is better than more potatoes.

We didn’t end up trying any of the rice noodle dishes here because it was a sunny day and we didn’t feel like having anything too hot or with soup so I guess that means that we will have to be back very soon to give the other things on the menu a try 🙂
